Enve's M50 Fifty 29 Inch MTB Wheelset is cross country racing through and through.
For their new MSeries, Enve has abandoned their previous categories for wheels (XC, AM, and DH) in favor of new ones that they think more closely identify the particular style of rider or bike. To this end, each model is defined by its particular carbon fiber rim, which is designed (and named) around a ratio of descending and ascending. For these rims, Enve also moved to a beadless construction for more precise dimensions and peerless tubeless performance. Not only are the MSeries rims better designed for their particular applications, but they are also stronger, stiffer, lighter, and matched up with other top-of-the-line products to create some of the best mountain bike wheels around.
As the cross country racer of the MSeries, the M50 Fifty is optimized for 50% descending and 50% ascending. These wheels are designed and built to take you efficiently over rough terrain and go up just as easily as they go down. With a 28mm depth and 21mm inner/27mm outer width, the M50 Fifty has the vertical compliance to help reduce fatigue over hours of riding and are lightweight for fast riding. The 29 inch wheel size will also help you keep that momentum that you've worked to build up and easily roll over pesky roots and rocks. Enve suggests use of tires between 1.9 and 2.25 inches and suspension systems with up to 100mm of travel for these wheels.
While these rims are something special, they are not the only highlight of these wheels. The M50 Fifty features smooth spinning, quick engaging DT Swiss 240 hubs with a 15mm thru-axle in the front and 142 x 12mm thru-axle in the rear for great stiffness. A two-cross lacing pattern provides a good combination of stiffness, strength, and weight savings, and the 6 bolt disc mounts work with a wide variety of manufactures.
